How to Create a Safe Place for Your Dog

Is your dog fearful of loud noises or events, such as thunderstorms, fireworks, or even the vacuum cleaner? Is your dog fearful of certain people, like children or strangers? Creating a safe place where your dog can escape can help reduce your dog's anxiety during stressful situations. It also helps establish clear boundaries—if the dog is in the safe space, the dog needs alone time and does not want to be pet or played with.

Becoming a Dog Trainer in 2021—Why Now?

Despite the pandemic, now is the best time to consider switching careers and pursuing dog training, as a side-hustle, a passion project, all-in fulltime employment, or starting your own business. In this article, KPA CTP and faculty member Andre Yeu explains why.

"I started When Hounds Fly during the last recession, the 2008/2009 recession caused by the sub-prime mortgage collapse in the United States. At the time, I worked in sales for a large US technology firm. No one was hitting their quota, no one was buying, and the sales pipeline looked pretty grim. Hero one day, zero another. I found myself unemployed in late 2009."

Teach Your Dog to Accept Eye Drops
As eye infections in dogs are common, your veterinarian may prescribe eye drops for your dog at some point. After introducing your dog to eye drops to acclimate your dog to the approach of the eye-drop bottle, your dog now has positive associations with the bottle. However, the application of the actual drops can be aversive for many dogs (and humans), so how do you teach your dog to cooperate?
