Scientists behind mRNA COVID Vaccines Win 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
With articles written by more than 200 laureates, the Nobel Prizes have a special significance to Scientific American. And we've just added another name to our list of Nobel Prize-winning contributors. Drew Weissman's article in our March 2022 issue was the first time he had ever written about the mRNA vaccine technology that he and Katalin KarikĂł—co-recipient of this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine—came up with. When our health editor Lauren Young spoke with him on Monday, Weissman shared that he's been reading Scientific American since he was a kid: "I started reading [the magazine] when I learned how to read because I was always interested in science." We're honored to have presented Weismann and KarikĂł's groundbreaking work to our readers. Learn more about their award-winning research along with details about the other 2023 Nobel laureates in our roundup below.
